Wedding Photography FAQ
Frequently asked questions about wedding photography.
Here are some commonly asked questions that are easily answered.
How many photos do I get?
From a normal 12- hour wedding I deliver between 600 and 800 images. Each of which are edited and ready for printing and sharing. I aim to deliver at least 50 edited images per hour of coverage (averaged over the day).
Why is wedding photography so expensive?
Running a business is pricey. Not only am I photographing your wedding day but I am also editing and processing your photos back at my office. In general, for every hour I spend shooting I spend 2-3 hours at the computer getting your images ready for delivery. Add in the costs of insurance, equipment up-keep, and taxes and the question quickly becomes, "Why do some photographers charge so little?" Why indeed? :)
Should we do a "first look"?
This is totally up to you and I roll with whichever way you wish. Some of the positive aspects are A) more opportunities for portraits, B) less stress on your wedding day as you can hang out and relax with your fiance.
Do I need a second photographer?
Not always. I do recommend hiring a second photographer if you and your fiance are getting ready at separate locations and having photos is important to you. They are also great for the additional coverage and angles during the events of your wedding.A second photographer also becomes invaluable by being in places where I can't be...like at Cocktail Hour while I am photographing formals and group photos.
Why should we get an engagement session?
Let's face it, most of us don't like to be in front of a camera. We're uncomfortable with it and it can be stressful, especially if the photographer is a stranger. An engagement session is a wonderful opportunity for you to become comfortable with me and my style of shooting. The session gives you an idea of how I work and what I'll ask of you during your portraits. And frankly, you get to learn that I am just a goof-ball who likes to have happy clients and I'll do just about anything to get you to laugh and relax for the camera. Even guys "who hate having their photographs taken" have become great subjects once they realize that the camera isn't threatening.
How do we book you?
In order to secure your wedding date on my calendar, I require a signed contract and a retainer fee. The retainer fee is generally a percentage of the total balance.
Absolutely! As long as the full balance is paid by your wedding date, you may pay however you wish.
Can we tack on more hours if our wedding runs over?
This is why I push for All-Day services. You wont be worrying about when my time is up near the end of the day. In fact, I give a discount for All-Day services vice hourly fees.
How long after the wedding do I get my photos?
Contractually, 4 weeks is longest you should ever go without seeing your photos. I do my very best to ensure that you have them within 2 weeks. I know that you are excited to see your images and I am excited to deliver them to you.
What if you are sick on my wedding day?
Knock on wood. I've never had this be an issue. If something were to ever come up that would prevent me from photographing then my top priorities are to notify you to discuss the next step and I will also be contacting my network of photography friends whom I trust to provide coverage.
